CBD Isolate

When extracting CBD from the hemp plant, distillate is the first result, and isolate is the second. It’s referred to as “isolate” because it isolates cannabidiol (CBD) from the rest of the cannabinoids present in the extract. The finished product contains only CBD, and it’s typically 99%+ pure.

How is it made?

Isolate is made by first making a distillate, which is still full of other plant matter and other cannabinoids, including CBG, CBC, CBD, CBN, and THC. This slurry of plant matter and cannabinoids must be removed in a process called chromatography, which is a way to separate individual chemical compounds and purify them. It must then go through winterization, which further purifies the substance by removing any trace fats or waxes. The end result is a white powder that’s over 99% pure CBD.

How can it be used in CBD products?

Because CBD isolate is a white powder, it can be easily added to food and drinks, like coffee, tea, juice, smoothies, or meals that have a sauce like spaghetti. It can also be blended with a carrier oil (like MCT oil) to be taken sublingually as a CBD tincture.

nu-x® uses isolate in CBD Liquid Concentrates by blending it with a suspension fluid MCT oil (other products may use grape seed oil, hemp seed oil, safflower oil, etc) and reintroducing terpenes or other natural flavors.

What types of CBD products typically use isolate?

nu-x® uses isolates in the CBD Disposable Vape Pens and the CBD Concentrates, which ensures that the amount of CBD contained within is pure and accurate. One gram of CBD isolate typically contains 990 milligrams of CBD, so it makes it easier to know the exact dosage measurements.

Other manufacturers sell isolate in its powder form, and the consumer can choose to take it as-is, or combine it with food, drink, or a carrier oil.

What makes it different than broad spectrum and full spectrum CBD distillate?

Both broad-spectrum and full-spectrum CBD distillate contain plant matter and cannabinoids other than CBD. In the case of broad spectrum CBD distillate, the THC cannabinoid has been removed. CBD isolate contains only one cannabinoid: cannabidiol (CBD). All other compounds, including plant matter, have been removed.
